Turn Compost is a convenient and affordable food scrap collection service operating in DFW. We pick up food scraps from residences, restaurants, businesses and events. Then we take them to one of our local partner farms and community gardens. Simply stated, we take food that people don’t eat and turn it into compost to grow more food. Join us as we turn the tide on the problem of food waste, and build a better Dallas!
Why It's Important
- Food waste is estimated at 30-40% of the food supply, which corresponded to 133 billion pounds and $161BN worth of food loss in 2010. (Source: USDA, OCE)
- More food reaches landfills and incinerators than any other single material in our everyday trash, about 21% of the waste stream. Reducing food waste will help the US address climate change, as 20% of total US methane emissions comes from landfills. (Source: EPA)
